The post-script to the first edition of the book (2003) indicated the forthcoming introduction of the TP ‘Plus’ bracket, its aim being to achieve stage III root movements, via a continuous heat-activated nickel-titanium auxiliary archwire, thereby eliminating the need for side-winders. Six years later, this second edition indicates that the bracket system works well and indeed is a super-efficient means of providing torque and uprighting in stage III with the added advantages of improved aesthetics, oral hygiene, and patient comfort. As expected with a stage III innovation, the new material is mainly presented in the last section of the book. The bracket design, with its ‘deep tunnel’ running lingual to the main base archwire slot, allows insertion of a nickel-titanium wire. This again with the base edgewise arch achieves torque and uprighting, thus obviating the need for side-winders and so provides a more streamlined appearance to the appliance. Its effectiveness is amply demonstrated by a variety of case reports, mostly treated by the author, although with some presentations by Dr Chris Kesling and, indeed, a couple by Dr Joy Hickman, Richard Parkhouse’s successor.
